Admissions

Aspen Community School is a public charter school of the Aspen School District. As a charter school, we are funded by the State and individual donations, charge no tuition, are non-discriminatory in admissions, and provide an alternative within the public school framework.

While our spots are limited, we give equitable opportunity through a lottery system to all who apply.

Application for 2024-2025 school year is now open. Please use this Google Form  to fill out applications for 2024-2025 school year.

Because there is greater demand for admissions than we have space for students, we use an annual lottery system to select students for enrollment. All prospective students are eligible for the lottery after they have completed the admissions process outlined below.

Enrollment is determined by availability and approximate gender balance. Aspen School District residents receive priority in the lottery. Class sizes are capped at 16 students for Kindergarten through 8th grades, for a maximum school community of 135144 students.

Once the annual lottery has been drawn, any applicants who did not receive an assignment will be added to a waitlist, which we draw from to fill any classroom vacancies that may occur during the school year. We continue to accept applications after the lottery; applicants will be added to that school year’s waitlist. The lottery process begins again each spring for the following school year. Waitlists do not roll over. Families who are re-applying must submit a new application for each lottery they apply to.
