Strong authentic connections between teachers and students create the relationship backbone that facilitates learning. Community is woven into the fabric of everything we do at ACS, across grades and across ages. Our expectation is that every member of our community acts with kindness, compassion, empathy, tolerance and patience. Each week the entire school comes together at All-School Meeting. The purpose is to share student work, solve group challenges and build strong relationships — as a community.
In recent years, Compass has dedicated time, energy and resources to creating equitable learning environments. While there is still more to be done, we are actively working on two paths to equity: diversity and mental health. Our multicultural approach allows us to celebrate the uniqueness of every student and family while accessing cultural resources within the larger Roaring Fork community. To offer more mental health support to students and staff, we provide Aspen Hope Center in-school clinicians through partnerships with Aspen Hope Center, Aspen Valley Community Foundation, Pitkin County, and the Town of Carbondale. When people feel honored and included, and when they have their basic needs met, not only are they better learners, they're better humans too.
